What happened to www.placenames.org.uk ?
« on: Monday 27 May 19 11:22 BST (UK) »
Until a few months ago there was an excellent site called www.placenames.org.uk that gave all the names of pretty much everywhere that has ever been recorded in the UK. Then one day it just disappeared. Does anybody know what happened and if it is under a new web address ?
(1) Janions of Cheshire, Lancashire, Hawaii, Vancouver and Seattle.
(2) Gregorys of Tarporley, Cheshire.
(3) Pughs of 'The New Pale' near Frodsham and Delamere in Cheshire.
(4) Nevills of Llanelly, Llangennech and Felinfoel.
(5) Yaldens of Ovington/Lovington in Hampshire.

The site is available on the Internet Archive at https://web.archive.org/web/20170626212354/http://www.placenames.org.uk/index.php/browse
but I don't know if it is  complete.

There is http://gazetteer.org.uk/

Hi, Stan, TVM for that. It does not work fully but it's good to know something of it still exists. I knew of the other website (but thanks for the suggestion all the same). It is just that www.placenames.org.uk was in a league of its own. ATB. Simon
