would anyone be able to give me information on Margaret mcvitie born about 1785 india, john scott born 7 aug 1788 canongate Edinburgh died 2 june 1818 cannanore madras.
I have information on john's family in Scotland but nothing in india and nothing at all on Margaret.

John Scott was a Captain, and Assistant Adjutant General of the (Madras) Army, aged 30, per his burial record.

I have some of his promotion dates (John Scott "senior"):

Cadet 1803
Lieutenant 21 Sep 1804

would there be anything about his family in his records, you think john (senior), had a son john junior the only family I have for him is a son William born 1806 fort William died 1881 chunaar Bengal. once again thank you carolaj

No further information I'm afraid. FindMyPast has the 1821 accounts of the administration of his estate but there are no family members mentioned there as far as I can see.
