I have started to explore my grandfathers military history, and whilst I have made good progress I have come unstuck with some of the finer details, any help would be greatly appreciated.
What I know from his official records:
He was taken on, and served most of the war as a driver for the '410 Bulk Petrol Transport Company' in North Africa and then Italy.
At some point he became a Lance Corporal in a different company, but got busted back to a driver after punching his Sargent!
What I need help with:
1) Is there anyway of finding out where specifically the 410 BPTC were based (or which companies they supplied), as I would dearly love to work out the places in the world he actually visited as he certainly went from N/Africa up through Italy but wanted to see if I could narrow it down further.
2) When he was briefly transferred it was to a unit identified as '32420' or '32120' but searches do not shed any light on what this actually is...the handwriting is very bad but looks to be something like 'Army Troops Co????te Company?
3) Towards the end of the war he allegedly joined the entertainment core, he definitely sang opera in Naples. All the records show are short transfers to companies 393, 130 and 296 (assuming all still RASC but maybe wrong) - is there anyone who could identify these numbers?
I am more than happy to do more digging if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Chris
