Anyone have any local knowledge of possibly Derrycorrib please?
« on: Monday 10 June 19 16:21 BST (UK) »
I have found a baptism in the Belmullet Parish Registers where the abode of the parents is virtually illegible.

It is the entry in 1844 against parents William Quigley and Mary Hynes. Having looked at the Townland Database, I am thinking it may be Derrycorrib. However searching for history or images of this location doesn't seem to bring up any relevant information. Does anyone else think this is Derrycorrib please. Neither location seems to be included on Genuki either.

In addition, does anyone know where there may be historical information or images? I can't even trace a photo of the RC Church at Belmullet. Is everything a huge secret in this area!!

Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Because that Death is over in Binghamstown I'd be more inclined to research https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0752  Kilmore Erris, which aren't much use to you.

KG -- yes, if that place name in the register is Derricorrib.

I will explore Griffiths Valuation on that site. Thank you.

Hallmark -- That a good death find (so to speak! That sounds awful doesn't it.) I am actually researching who I think may be the daughter born to that couple. I am suspecting it is 'Mary' as the 2 letters showing could be 'ry'. Also a Mary Quigley came to England and had an illegitimate son she named William. She gives her birthplace as Mayo - and her age at death gives a birth year of c 1844. So it's a bit 'up in the air' anyway.

I think the couple also had a daughter Catherine in 1851. They married in 1843 - William's name looks like Cugley in the records of the marriage! I had to search the registers.

Nevertheless I was hoping to find out something about the area to add information and colour to this family history potential story.

I have looked at the history of Belmullet and discovered 'fishing'. The illegitimate son became a Fish Hawker in England. It's Derrycorrib (if it is that place) which lacks info. But I will look more closely at the link provided by KG to see if I can dredge up any history.

Thank you both -- great finds both of them.
