Look Up Request - David Evans and family to New York ca 1852
« on: Tuesday 11 June 19 21:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more about David and Sara(h) Evans and their family who emigrated to the USA in about 1852.  They are on the 1841 and 1851 Census as living at Trefilan Cardiganshire Wales with children Elizabeth, David, Richard, William, John and Lewis who may have accompanied them.

In FindMyPast I can see that a David Evans (although DOB is not correct) and Sarah Evans sailed for New York in 1852 with their family - Lewis Evans (b. 1843), William D Evans (b.1842), Richard Evans (b. 1835), John Evans (b. 1837), David Evans (b.1834).  It shows them as having sailed on the 'John Stuart' to New York in 1852 in 'New York Passenger Lists & Arrivals'.  However I don't have the required level of subscription to access the document and I would like to establish it is them and that is the whole party, plus any other information it contains.

William D Evans, and his brother Lewis went on to be CM Ministers and William wrote the book 'Dros Gyfanfor a Chyfandir' on his later travels.  Although I have found a brief history of Wiliam here (  https://americymru.net/americymru/blog/4540/travels-of-a-welsh-preacher-in-the-usa ) I would be very interested in what happened to the family who seemed to settle in Ohio, at least initially.

Many thanks

Tony

Here is the incoming passenger list for the "John Stuart" in 1852 at Family Search (it's free)

Many, many thanks to RJ137 for your help.  I wasn't aware of FamilySearch.org which I will use to see if I can find out more about what happened to them.

Again thanks
