On the 1939 Census William b 30 Jan 1909 had Royal Engineers 203406 against his name.
Never seen a military entry before.
Is there a listing available?

Service records for all personnel serving after 1920 are still with the MOD.

You can apply for his records, but there is a fee of £30.

P.S. There wasn't a census in 1939?
Were you looking at the 1939 National Register, by any chance?
