Vincent Frederick William Mainwaring
« on: Friday 14 June 19 15:45 BST (UK) »
The above named person was Lieutenant 105810 Mainwaring, Royal Artillery, 9th Field Training Regiment.

Born: 3 May 1900, Pretoria, Union of South Africa

Died at Knaresborough Isolation Hospital 09/12/1939, aged 39

Buried: Fareham Cemetery, Hampshire

Husband of Doris Mainwaring of 148 Gosport Road, Fareham, Hampshire, UK (Married first quarter 1926).

What I am trying desperately to find out is who were his parents and where did they live? I'm pretty certain his father's name was Piet, as this shown on various documents, including the marriage certificate, which shows that he was "deceased".

Any help very much appreciated.

Many thanks!
Steve

I'm going to have to show my ignorance, but what or who is eggsa and how would one go about requesting a copy?

Thanks!

I'm not 100%, but Vincent's marriage was Christian Church of England.

EGGSA.ORG is the online branch of the South African Genealogy Society - they offer a service to photograph archive documents at a small fee . You could look in the shipping records around that time to see if the returned to the UK. I did look at the baptism records for St Albans in Pretoria and could not find a baptism for you guy - might be worth writing to the Church in Pretoria as they may have more complete records.
Regards
Gillian

The only other detail that I can add is that he had two sisters - a Mrs Bennett and a Mrs Williams. Both of these were mourners at his funeral.

Before anyone asks, no I do not know their first names.
