Parks of Cambuslang
« on: Sunday 16 June 19 20:13 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone on here, is a descendant of James Park (Collier) and Martha Connell, from Cambuslang?

As far I can tell, they had 7 children, whose births aren't on Scotland's People, but are in the Glasgow Archives, being part of the baptism records of St. Andrews in the Green.

The children recorded are James (1766-), John (1769-), Andrew (1772-), Joseph (1774-), Martha (1776-), and William (1781-).

In the 1807 Cambuslang Census, Martha Connell is alive in West Cotes, living with her children Martha Park and William Park.

As far as I can tell, both Martha Park and William Park died single, in 1850/1851.

In 1807, son James (1766-), is also living in West Cotes, with his wife, Marion Allan, and their children, James, Hugh, Mary, Marion, Andrew, Joseph, Martha, John, Helen, William and Margaret

He appears to have died in Ontario, Canada, in 1856. His whole family (apart from son Andrew) seems to have emigrated with him.

In 1807, son Joseph (1774-), appears to be living in East Cotes, with his wife, Margaret Forrest, and children, James, John, Robert.

He also appears to be living with a Martha Park, who I assume is his niece, being the daughter of his brother Andrew (1772-).

If anyone is interested in the full Cambuslang Census from 1807, I have posted a copy of it, on my ancestry.com tree.

Unfortunately it is too large a file to post here, but here's the link:

Kenny --

Thanks for all that you've shared!!

Are you saying that there is a baptism for James Park 1766 at St Andrews in the Green? I have the others but not his so would appreciate it.

I also have a baptism for a 2nd John Park given to me, also at St. Andrew-by-the-Green (Scottish Episcopalian Church)
Nov 19 1778 = baptized John L son to James Park Collier at Coats in the Parish of Cambuslang & Martha Connel his spouse.

I'm assuming that Martha Park d/o Andrew Park was the one who married Henry Allan in 1815 in Cambuslang?

Thanks so much for sharing the actual list of 1807 Inhabitants of Cambuslang - it was fascinating reading!

Hello kennyparker:

I am a descendant of James Park and Marion Allen. There is a lot of information on the web that is false about him, ie. death dates, etc.
If you are still available, I am willing to help you with details for this family.
