George Denison - Rawdon/Lichfield/Bradford/Leicester
« on: Wednesday 19 June 19 22:23 BST (UK) »
Hi  :)

I am trying to track down some information on my Great Great Grandfather, George Denison, and I believe he had connections to St Mary's Parish in Lichfield. He was born in Rawdon, Yorks, in 1844 but married his wife Hannah in Dudley and lived in Lichfield in the 1870's.  :) I know he was a 'Vicar Choral' from his children's baptism records, which were performed at St Mary's by a W.Fairclough in the 1870's (Thomas Denison 1870, Gertrude M Denison 1872). If his children were baptised at St Mary's I'm assuming he was a probably a 'Vicar Choral' there?  ??? His son's marriage license of 1905 also names him as a Cathedral Chorister (deceased), and the 1871 census says he is a professor of music. Is there a way to find church records, to see if he was singing or teaching in Lichfield? I do know by 1874 he had moved to Wolverhampton. By 1891 he seems to have completely disappeared and the rest of his family has moved to Leicester, yet I cannot find a death record at all!!!  ::) :-\

Please can anyone you help me locate this man?!!!???

Thanks in advance!

Toni Miller

(PS I cannot visit records offices as I live in Texas)

Is Hannah still alive in 1891?  If so - what is her marital status?

The 1891 shows Hannah as a widow so George must have died between 1881-1891

The age is out but there is a burial at Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester on 24 Feb 1892 of George Denison aged 32 of Northgate Street, which is less than a mile from where Hannah was in 1891.

I can't see anyone in Leicester in 1891 that would fit this death, so you never know  :-\

I would suggest that you contact Stafford Records Office

https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Heritage-and-archives/homepage.aspx

They hold the Diocesan records for Lichfield Diocese - perhaps there is some information there.  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
