Frederick Woodroff/e b. 1842 Wilsford.
« on: Thursday 20 June 19 04:48 BST (UK) »
Good morning everyone.
Please may I ask for help solving what happened to Frederick.
Born Q3.1842 in Wilsford, the son of Richard and Ann Woodroffe ( Pinchen.var), he was bpt. 2. Oct. 1842 at Wilsford.
I have two brothers for him ( both Josephs)  one born Q3.1839 died Q1.1840 and another  b.Q2.1845 who I believe may have died 1848 Devizes. Mother Ann remarried Devizes 1849 so assume she had moved their after death of Richard earlier?
Unable to find Frederick after his baptism but note that his cousin Henry named two sons Fred in 1858 /1859 so wondering if this is a clue.
Any help you can give would be most welcome.

Ann Woodroffe married Robert Stevens but her father is given as Robert Woodroffe so was Woodroffe also her maiden name when she married Richard Woodroffe? **

** No the 1849 marriage says she was a spinster so she can't be the widow of Richard (unless she is pulling a fast one!)

When did Richard die?

So you have Richard Woodroff(e) baptised in Wilsford in 1808, son of John & Sarah.

Married Ann Pinchin (21) at Wilsford, 8 August 1837 - daughter of John Pinchin.

Children:

Joseph Woodroffe mmn Pinchin, Sep qtr 1839 Pewsey (died Mar qtr 1840, aged 0)
Frederick Woodroffe mmn Pinchin, Sep qtr 1842 Pewsey
Joseph Woodroffe mmn Pinchin, Jun qtr 1845 Pewsey

Are any of them ever seen again in English records?  Might the whole family have emigrated before 1851?

South Australia Passenger Lists :

Arriving Adelaide from Plymouth on the vessel Constance 27 Oct 1850 were :

Joseph Woodroffe aged 5 (1845)
Ann Woodroffe  aged 32 ( 1818 )
Richard Woodroffe aged 41 ( 1809 )
Frederick Woodroffe aged 7 ( 1843 )

Note - record is a transcript and there is no further info .

I've found a pdf of the list on the South Australia Archives website. The entry for Richard Woodroffe states he is a farm labourer from Wiltshire.

Oh! my goodness
Thank you all for taking an interest and time. It appears I  have made a mistake and have the wrong Ann and Joseph for that matter.
I never did confirm a death for Richard which left me in a quandry and looks like I jumped to wrong conclusions all round, very naughty.
I know that Richard was with Ann and his mother Sarah in 1841 but couldn't find him 1851 although I found his mother.
So! it looks like Richard, Ann, Frederick and Joseph sailed to Australia in 1850, certainly their ages match but poor Ann and Frederick died on the voyage. How sad.

Christine 53, avm228 thank you so very much, I'm very grateful.
