Hello DesignerJeans,

we can now see your .pdf attachment, folk need to click on it in order to see the image, if you save your documents as .jpeg the image will naturally just show up without folk having to click on it ;)

Regards

Sarah

Thank you so much Sarah, what a nightmare!!  Let's hope it has been worth it and that someone can come up with Michael's father's name.

This one is terribly difficult, Valerie.

The word before - although splodged - is filius (as it is in the next entry).

The ff of the surname is reasonably clear.

What is in between is only four letters, at most.

I can see elements which might fit with:  Johi = Joh(ann)i = of John.

However, we have several examples of the writer's J in the month, and they don't really match what is in the name.

Would you be able to look through nearby entries for a baptism which has something like ...filius Johi... in this position, so we can compare?  Use the Snipping Tool to clip that section, save it as a JPG file and post it here.

Thanks for posting these clips, Valerie.  They are very useful.

Based on these clips we can rule out some form of John.

In MF Three there are two examples where the father is:  Tho:

They are fifth down from top and third up from bottom.

I think they (especially the second one) are a reasonable match to our problem name.

Therefore my view is that Thomas is most likely.

ADDED:

There's one more Tho: at second bottom in MF One.
