John Francis O'Neill - possibly died in 1916?
« on: Sunday 23 June 19 19:24 BST (UK) »
I am trying to verify details on a relative John Francis O'Neill who I believe died in the First World War or shortly after. John was married to Amy Mildred Gardner in 1916, Amy did have a son born in 1912 who was supposedly John's.

I have not been able to find any service record but did find a possible entry on the CWGC site:
https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/487468/o'neill,-/

Quote
Private O'NEILL, J F
Service Number 27320
Died 29/10/1916
2nd Bn.
Border Regiment

Can anyone find any further details to confirm whether this is the right John?

Thanks,
Alexander

He left his effects to his father John (Effects register on Ancestry).

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

I may be missing something but I can't see anything in the Pension Ledger transcript that definitely links Pte 27320 John Francis O'Neill to the 1916 GRO marriage in Stratford.

I just posted the marriage ref to show possibly the marriage took place a very short time before John Francis died
Possibly on his records (re next of kin ) had not had time to be updated before he died - along with his will
If you have the marriage cert it should show his father as John and so make a connection

Don't have the marriage certificate but will look into this to confirm.

Thanks everybody.
