Alice Jackson, 1851
« on: Tuesday 25 June 19 10:21 BST (UK) »
I'm told that Alice Jackson is on the 1841 census in North Walls, Hull, with her husband John and daughter Elizabeth.  Alice is 40-ish, John 50-ish and Elizabeth 20-ish.  I know that the couple entered the Charterhouse and John died in 1850.  Alice would have been evicted, so where was she in 1851?  A look-up would be appreciated.

Not the right ages but to start is this the right 1841?

John Jackson 70
Alice 50
Elizabeth 20

There's an Alice Jackson 61 ** servant in 1851 born Borough Yorks living with
Ann Rigby 26
Thomas Rigby 21

Add Stalybridge Lancs

** sorry no that one is unmarried

You're actually right on the 1841, and my original informant may have been working from a poor transcription.  We know John was born c.1772.  They married in Hull in 1813.
I know a lot of the 1851 census for Hull is lost.  I was just hoping to find out where they came from originally.
Thanks for your help.

It does say Not born in County for John and Alice and John was a Clerk.

Elizabeth was born in County.

Do you know what happened to Elizabeth?

Which 1850 death have you got for John - was it in Hull?

I can see these 2 for John Jackson but not the right ages  :-\

The Mar 1850 was age 0 and the Dec 1850 was 14

We have 15 January 1850 from two sources; the Charterhouse register and a newspaper report of his death.  And I've just looked on YorkshireBMD, and he's there, in East Sculcoates, now part of Hull.

That looks interesting.  But Elizabeth's age and place of birth are both wrong - unless the Elizabeth baptised in 1815 died and a subsequent daughter was given the same name.  That would fit the 1841 census as well.  Now to look for an Alice Cowan born in Kirbymoorside.
Thanks for this.
