Not Understood writing
« on: Tuesday 25 June 19 16:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone decipher the second name from the attached image. I can read Stephen Buckley
but the name underneath makes no sense at all. They are witnesses to a marriage in 1868

Thanks

Philipsearching: I couldn't make out the first letter, nothing else on the page even looked liked a 'D'
but I think your right, it looks like David Hankell. Thanks.

ShaunJ: Thanks for your reply I could only see the 'Hank' and had difficulty in making a name that would seem feasible.

Was it a church wedding? Browse other marriages at the church in case David Hankell was a regular witness.

My impression is that the original was Hanna but the last two characters are overwritten, possibly with 'na' but larger . . . which doesn't make much sense, I know.  :-\

Where was the marriage?

You could check 1871 for the names David HANKELL and David HANNA..

A David Hanna and a Stephen Buckley both appear in 1871 in Lancashire, both born in Ireland. I don't have any active subscriptions at the moment so cannot investigate further.
