Finally an Irish location!

Hi all,

I have just discovered that one of my ancestors came from Londonderry.  This record was obtained from the IGI at LDS, and it is not specific as to exact location.  But it does say it has been extracted from the local records.

This is my first go at looking for information in Ireland, although it won't be my last as many of my ancestors came from there.

Where do I start?  Londonderry seems huge to me at the moment...I am a bit overwhelmed!

Nina:  Londonderry or Derry is a city in the county of same name.  Give us a few clues like names, dates and I am sure you will get all kinds of good advice.

This is what I have.  Only one of them has a location next to the name, so I am hoping the rest of the family came from there too!

Henry Corr, b. 1830 Ireland, m. Catherine Corr.

Their son James Corr, b. 1851 Ireland, d. 1900 Glasgow Scotland, m. Catherine Hampsey, b. 1852 Ireland, d. Scotland.

Children were:

James, b. 1873, Londonderry Ireland
John, b. 1877, Ireland
Mary, b. 1882, Ireland
Henry, b. 1884, Ireland
Bernard, b. 1888, Ireland
Annie, b. 1893, Ireland
Patrick, date and place of birth unknown.

This family was in Glasgow by 1901, but James was not accounted for.

Henry married Agnes Madden in 1906, Glasgow, Scotland. Their children were Henry, James, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Bernard and Patrick and either an Agnes or Cathie.

(The John mentioned here is my grandfather, John Joseph Corr, b. 1914 Glasgow, married Helen Logan. Still living at 91 years old)

Bernard married Mary Kennedy Noble, presumably in Glasgow, and the only child I know of is James, b. 1916.

Right parents, date and place....so that makes Patrick the eldest, and I should have said he wasn't on that Glasgow census above either!  Probably off making his own life somewhere.

What did you look at to find those names?

You wouldn't believe it, but I found ANOTHER ancestor's location today...Fermanagh!  So I guess I will be looking around on that board too!

I am so grateful!

You see, my mum couldn't tell me much about her family at all; in fact she didn't know her grandfather's first name.  Her dad is still alive at 91, but has dementia, and also being in Australia while all the family are in Scotland...well, we just didn't know anything!

And now, thanks to your kindness, she now has a location for her origins.
