Lesmahagow burials
« on: Sunday 30 June 19 12:11 BST (UK) »
I have many ancestors who were born/lived/died in this parish.   Brown, Porteous, Mather etc.
Is there anywhere I can buy a book on the burials/MI's of Lesmahagow?
Thank you

I have photographed some Brown headstones in the Lesmahagow cemetery, it's in no way complete but may help. link here:

There doesn't seem to be a MI book for the cemetery but the old churchyard does have.

Thank you for your assistance.  The Browns/ Porteous/ mather ancestors were well before the stones you have photographed.  They will have been buried in the churchyard.  I have sent for a book of burials from the Lanarkshire Family History Society to see if I can locate them there.

Very many thanks for all your help and suggestions, everyone.

I am related to the Browns and Porteous’ from Lesmahagow. My great, great grandmother’s maiden name was Porteous and her mother’s maiden name was Brown.

I have some of the books from the Lanarkshire Family History Society.

I’m guessing we are probably related in some way!

I am descended from Adam Brown and Elizabeth (Betty) Porteous who were married in Lesmahagow in 1775.
I am grateful for all the help I have been given and have purchased burial books for Lesmahagow from
Lanarkshire Family History Society.
Best regards to all
