JARMAN - ALLEN Marriage 1904
« on: Sunday 30 June 19 17:07 BST (UK) »
I'm looking to confirm the parents of Mr Jarman. The marriage is registered in the name of John Alfred Jarman and Lucy Henrietta Allen (Billesdon 7a 79 OND 1904). They were living in Tugby at the time of the 1911 census with two daughters. Jarman declared himself to be 30 years old.

Unfortunately no suitable birth index for a John (Alfred) in that time scale. The nearest is a Charles Alfred Jarman with MMN Ashby. If that is the case it would give his father's name as John

Are the Billesdon District marriages (presumably Tugby) available on line anywhere? I haven't found any so far.

This 1901 one has the right age and birthplace.

Hi Pauline

Yes, as mentioned after he was married he was living in Tugby in 1911 and was calling himself John Alfred.

I have seen that 1901 census and that would correspond to the Charles Alfred that I also mentioned in the first post.

I would be delighted if that 1901 census is correct and matches the 1904 marriage. If it does it untangles a huge morass of family interconnections in my database. Maybe knowing that his father at the marriage was John and possibly seeing witnesses would confirm. btw they were also in Alexton in 1891

Cheers Alan

Does the marriage certificate give John's father's name and occupation?

The 1901 census found by PaulineJ leads to a marriage (found on FreeBMD):
Dec qtr 1875 Uppingham vol 7a p697 John JARMAN and Fanny ASHBY.

The closest match for a death I could find on FreeBMD is:
Mar qtr 1939 Billesdon (Leics) vol 7a p36 JARMAN Charles A age 57

I don't have the marriage certificate. That's why I was wondering whether the Tugby (or nearby) Parish Registers were online anywhere.

Pity Charles A didn't live another 6 months - he might have appeared in the 1939 Directory if he had.

The 1939 Directory does give one little push towards the truth. Lucy H Jarman, now a widow, is living with her married daughter in Burton Overy

The Billesdon registers are available to browse on FindMyPast but the 1904 marriage is not there, 17 registers in total. Also 9 for Tugby but not covering 1904 marriages

Thank you - that I think clinches it. In retrospect, the 1911 census, when he appears as John Albert Jarman, was filled in by Mrs Lucy Jarman for some reason

Many thanks, all
