What is Catherine's surname?
« on: Sunday 07 July 19 09:34 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone decipher Catherine's surname. She was the mother of my ancestor John Connors who was baptised in New Ross, Wexford in 1823.

Also I can't make out the name of the sponsors if anyone can help there also.

Armitage, Atherton, Barton, Beck, Bradshaw, Brumfitt, Chetwin, Conalty, Connolly, Connor(s), Davidson, Hilton, Hoey, Johnson, Jones, Knight, Lester, McDonald, Molyneux, Morris, Pownall, Rushton, Spark, Stanley, Tunstall, Welsby, West, Wharton, Williams, Wilson, Windridge, Windstandley

Looks a bit like 'Kinsila' -- although I cannot understand the letters above the surname. which resemble 'son'.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I'd agree with that, but the surname can also be written as Kinsella.

First sponsor

Gulielmis  (William) then I see FA ......     I wondered about Faulkner but there is no downstroke in that. That letter looks very like the G in Marguerite.  So maybe the middle letters are GHT

Looking at the original (reverse image white on black) -

agree "Kinsila" and "Margarita/e McGuire"

First witness "Gulielmus" or similar - William.

I'd forgotten you also asked about sponsors.

The Marguerite McGuire suggestion looks very promising indeed.
The male sponsor -- yes William in it's Latin form - then --Faughtner? Can't be that though!

Many thanks everyone

I thought Catherine's surname looked like Kinsila. Agree with the Sponsor Margaret McGuire and I knew Guilielmus was William but his surname is not easy. I thought it started Fair......

Thanks again
Gail
