It looks like:

July 30
Baptized
... Augt.

July 30 is presumably the date of birth, but I can't make out the date before Augt.

Thanks ArthurK,

Do you think it might possibly read:

Baptized
2 de [day] Aug.

Janet.

I think that's rather unlikely. Where I've seen 'de' in a register it's been as the Latin for 'of', and in all the times for which registers survive, I don't think a common word such as 'day' will have been spelled in any other way.

Can you tell us a bit more about the entry, such as date and place? This appears to be the parish register, but someone might be able to view the bishop's transcript of the same entry, or might have access to a published transcription.

It's hard to tell without seeing the whole page, but I wonder if the baptism date is Aug 19. There seems to be a '19' below 'Aug' on the extract shown, and the date above seems to have the month followed by the day.

It is much easier to decipher when you have more of the text to compare, and you can often work out dates more easily if they are in a sequence in calendar order.

As it was a private baptism, it's likely that 30 July was the date of the baptism at home, and the August date (if that's what it says) the date the child was received into the church. But, as has been said, it would be helpful to see a much bigger extract.

Good morning ArthurK,

Unfortunately, the aside does not appear in the Bishop's Transcripts.  I will remove [de] from my transcription.  This is the only occurrence of this note in the entries, all other notes say, "received into the church...".

Thank you for your help.

Janet

Thank you to all who took the time to reply.

I've taken on board what has been said for future reference.
