Newcastle Evening Chronicle c12 March 1921 - lookup please
« on: Friday 12 July 19 16:08 BST (UK) »
1920s and 1930s editions not yet online.

I have a John Clasper who was buried on 12th March 1921 at Garden House Cemetery, so if there was a death notice it should be within a couple of days prior to that. The burial record is about the right age and the right area for the man I am looking for but I have yet to find a definite record for him after the  1901 census, so am unsure if its the right man. If there is a death notice that may help to confirm or discount this burial.

If anyone has time when at the library to check, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Boo

Thanks RTL, I've been firkling round the buriasl register and it looks like a married sister is in the same grave so this death is looking a lot more likely. Would be interesting to know if it mentions a wife though I have no sign of one so far.

Hi Boo

Here is the death notice ...

Evening Chronicle -  Thursday, 10  March & Friday, March 11, 1921

'CLASPER - Dunston, 52, Dunston Rd., 10th inst., aged 50 years, John, second son of Thomas and Elizabeth Clasper.  Interment Garden House Cemetery, Sat., 3 p.m.: leave residence 2.15.  Friends please accept this intimation.'

There was no memoriam for the following year.

I'm guessing you've got your man, here!  ;)

Many thanks RTL.

As you guessed, that confirms he's the man I was looking for. No mention of a wife, which I thought would be the case.

The 'second son' threw me a bit as he was the sixth child and third son of Thomas and Elizabeth, but the second one died back in 1876, so perhaps whoever placed the notice didn't know about him.

Thanks for the help, as ever its very much appreciated.
I do keep checking the online database in the hope that they will start to add the 1920s and 1930s for the Chronicle but nothing as yet. Hopefully they will make a start soon and I can stop pestering you!

Boo

You are welcome Boo. .. and don't worry about the 20s and 30s not yet being on-line.  I am always happy to help out when I can and don't see this as 'pestering' at all.   :)
