Mariners Records
« on: Monday 15 July 19 14:27 BST (UK) »
Hi Does anyone know where to find Mariners records from around 1860 to 1900. I am checking for a friend whose ancestor was born in Denmark and was listed as a mariner on his daughter's marriage certificate. He lived here with his family.  Also records of deaths of seaman

Hi
I can't help you with seaman records other than records that might be on Ancestry but if you give me his name and where he lived I can perhaps find him in Denmark.

If he were a British Merchant seaman, then no central personal records were kept between 1857 and 1913. The Board of Trade in its wisdom decided that personal records from Logbooks and Crew Agreements would suffice.
If he died on a British ship then this should be recorded, the pay to view site FindMyPast should have details

If you can find a death at sea for him, then it should record the name of the vessel he was on at the time of his demise. If you can establish this it may be possible to trace all of the vessels he sailed on together with personal details such as last address, Nok, etc.

Thank you for replying. His name is Christian Hansen born 1849 in Denmark. He married Caroline Louisa Smith in 9 Jul 1878 All Saints Poplar.  His Father is listed as Christian Hansen labourer.
In April 1897 her husband is listed as dead in
London, England, Selected Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records, 1698-1930

She is also listed as widow by 1911 census

Hi
Unfortunately there is too little to go on in finding Christian Hansen.
