I have come across a reasonable size family of DOEG mainly in Bengal, India.

Anyone have any links to this name, I would be grateful?

I would guess they are all descended from Harry Franklin Doeg (born Newcastle 1819) who married Mary Ann Masterton in Howrah in 1845.

Yes I have found Harry Franklin Doeg.

That is a very kind offer, perhaps I ought to explain my reasons for digging into this family. My husband passed away recently and my very kind neighbours have been of the most enormous help, unfortunately the husband has been told he has a terminal illness and I thought that finding out about his family might take his mind off it somewhat.

I started with Bryan Lawrence O'Reilly born 1911 in Karachi

Son of Patrick Joseph O'Reilly and Ivy Standford Doeg married 1905 in Howrah

I think the following are siblings of PJ

Theresa Bridget
Geraldine Constance

There was quite a lot of information on Family Search  but I became confused as I found a marriage for James Charles above marrying Lily Erena Doeg but claiming his father was Alexander and mother Susanna.

I think the father of Ivy Standford Doeg is Sidney Standford Doeg married to Leapoldine Cadorini.

Sidney claims his father is Harry Franklin Doeg and mother Mary Ann Masterton however on his marriage certificate he says his father is R W Standford - to say I am confused is an understatement.

Any clarification, I would be very grateful for.

Do you mean this entry in the "father's name" column of the H F Doeg/Mary Ann Masterton marriage?

I took it to mean that R W Stanford of Howrah was Mary Ann Masterton's guardian. Doesnt make sense otherwise

oh that explains that mystery, I only saw the transcription and it read as though his father was R W Standford.

Looks like Shaunj has answered all your questions! Hope your neighbour is pleased. Btw I think there may be a tree on ancestry descended from the same marriage. My partner is descended from one of the children of Sydney’s second marriage to Katie Follett Bland Cox.
