Thanks Minniehaha,

I'll see if I can find any additional info on him.

Sure, here they are. I've attached them because some of the handwriting is difficult to decipher.

Might I suggest that you request a look up for the 'Intention to Marry' document in respect of the first marriage. Elizabeth was a minor and should have required permission to marry (from her father?).

Hmmm, that's interesting Minnehaha. I'll get on to that today. By the way, I've just ordered a death certificate for a George Sinclair who died in 1877. I'm hoping its the same George Sinclair buried at Russell Cemetary.

Remember printouts are cheaper than certificates, may contain more information and can be e-mailed.   :)

Have for looked for another opportunity to see how Elizabeth's family name is recorded?

For all that she marries as SINCLAIR, perhaps later in life, with better understanding of her origins you might see another name used.

These births should record mother's name and birthplace.....informant would be important.

1879/10441   DICKINSON   Allen   Elizabeth   parents Elizabeth /Abel
1881/1961   DICKENSON   Claressa Dellia   parents Elizabeth /Abel
1883/17342   DICKENSON   George           parents Elizabeth /Abel
1884/230           DICKINSON   Francis           parents Elizabeth /Abel
1885/4921   DICKINSON   Eugene           parents Elizabeth /Abel
1887/4531   DICKINSON       Bertie           parents Elizabeth /Abel

The information on the death certificate would be given by a family member. Given that Isaac Van ARSDALE featured so briefly in Elizabeth's life, I do not think that the details of the first marriage  would be casually known so many years later. The details about the first marriage are taken straight from the 1857 certificate. The death certificate gives her father as SINCLAIR because that was how Elizabeth's family name was recorded at marriage.

Bertie DICKINSON served in WW1....#3201. Record can be seen via Archway.
Image 232 of 975....father Abel DICKENSON born America
                         ....mother Elizabeth DICKENSON born Auckland.

Bertie does not record his mother's family name.

On the first marriage certificate Elizabeth signs her name.

The record for the second marriage shows Elizabeth giving her sign.

Hi Wivenhoe,

I actually ordered some of those birth certificates a couple of days ago but I’m still waiting for them to arrive.

I might try and find some of the birth certificates for Elizabeth’s nieces and nephews as well, there's a good chance that they could also contain some helpful information.

Minniehaha.

I still think this document would be worth investigating as it may have her father's name on it.
