I can only see one Margaret Davies b abt 1861 in Malpas on 1881 census. She has two siblings surname Davies and her mother is Sarah Tomlinson (married, head). Could George Davies have died and Sarah married a Mr Tomlinson who was away from home on census night

Piece number 2672 Folio 83 Page 9
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

If those are Margaret's parents - her mother Sarah was a widow by 1871 - with a 10 year old daughter, Margaret, (and other children) shown as born Malpas and living in Malpas Suburbs.

There is also a Margaret Davies on GRO index with mother's maiden name 'Downes'. However how do you know these are her parents please?

(I still haven't seen a marriage for Thomas and Margaret).
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

So 1881 Census- Cuddington (Malpas):

We have Thomas Holmes as a Groom at Cherry Hill, the home of an Irish Landowner on page 10 AND we have Margaret Davies on page 9 (same piece number) - spitting distance of each other  ;D ;D
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
