1856 Alice Emma Thurston born dec q Camberwell mmn Gatward
----------------------------------------
1857 George William FROGLEY born mar q Camberwell  mmn **** as per 1861/71 census

Well, that is interesting. It puts them all in Camberwell about the same time. So, William may have fathered both children! Then, possibly, a split between William and Lydia, and he goes off with Fanny.
All possible. What makes less sense is William taking the son James/Henry with him (if he did :-\).

I don't know what happened to Lydia.
Daughter Alice Emma seems to have married twice, firstly to George Frederick Gowar in Camberwell  in 1883. Don't think it is online.
One son, Thomas Thurston Gowar, registered Sep 1884, Lambeth. Said son died the following year. Then in 1886 there is a death in Lambeth of George Frederick Gowar, age 39.

In 1888, Alice Emma Gower married Henry Martin at St Philip Camberwell.
Marriage is on ancestry, and indexed on FamilySearch. Father William Thurston, Contractor.

The Martins then went off to Hitchin, where daughter Laura Mary was born in 1889 (registered Dec 1889, Hitchin, mmn Thurston)
Here they are in Peterborough in 1901, a Gower lady is with them

Is this William in 1851 - in Camberwell where Lydia was - but with the wrong age?

William Thurston Mar. 30?    Man Servant      born Great Baddow, Essex

Ref. HO107 - Piece 1581 - Folio 48 - Page 40.

Oh well done, Annette. In Peckham. Says that he is married as well. Must be him!
We may now have both of them in 1851.

Well done for finding them in 1851--looks good. Two other items. George William (Frogley) Thurston married Emily Jane Gude, they had a son George ARBA Thurston in 1882. With regard to Frances there's a birth in mar q 1856 CAMBERWELL of a Richard Frogley, believe he died aged 0 dec q 1856 Stepney a possible connection.

Francis's baptism - St George in the East 4 may 1834

so one or two William's - probably one under different names; two marriages to Lydia and Fanny - loads of children - do I understand correctly? How do I go about finding William's parents?

Thank you very much

Hi
We think one William, son of James the excise man. A marriage to Lydia, and then a split to live with Fanny.
At least everything seems to be pointing that way.

With regard to Frances there's a birth in mar q 1856 CAMBERWELL of a Richard Frogley, believe he died aged 0 dec q 1856 Stepney a possible connection.

What a find!
He was born in Camberwell Workhouse, 5 January 1856
Illegit son of Frances Frogley
Transcribed on ancestry as Nogley (London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1917)

There is a burial at the City of London and Tower Hamlets Cemetery, 25 Sep 1856, of a Richard Newton Frogley. Age 10 months (close!) Abode Wapping Wall Shadwell. Might be him

Hard to keep up with all these finds!
