Little Chart Church
« on: Sunday 28 July 19 01:44 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this request but hopefully someone here can help or move this to the best part of the forum.

Is there anyone who lives in or near Little Chart in Kent [England] who would be able to visit the church and photograph two MI inside it for me?

Alternatively does anyone know if the church might be able to send me photos or if images of the MIs for that church are online?

It's a bit of a long shot but I hope someone can help in some way.

I will post full details tomorrow.

Matt

Little Chart church was bombed in WW2.  Sadly there isn't much left.

If your looking for an old memorial I doubt if it has survived.

A replacement church was built in the 1950s.

That's a big shame, it's so horrible when these old churches and buildings are destroyed [or just left to crumble and neglect in some cases] as they always hold so much history [not just for genealogists] plus the architecture is always so beautiful.

I have a reference to two inscriptions that were noted in the chancel of the church in 1758 so like you say it's unlikely they survived the bombing. However as they were on the floor [and in 1758 they were partly under the pews] I am hoping that maybe they survived as they were on the ground and not the walls.

I will email the current rector and see she can help. It is a long shot but worth a try.

There's a series of photos on Geograph

There's really very little left.

We very lucky in Kent to have the records of the Kent Archaeological Society available to us via the internet. Sadly so much is now lost or illegible.

Yes I've seen a photo today. It's very sad to see these old buildings in ruins.
