Australia to Ireland
« on: Sunday 28 July 19 04:13 BST (UK) »
I am enquiring whether there are emigration records going from Australia to Ireland. Looking for Patrick (b. 1833) and Thomas (b. 1836) Caher/Cahir. They arrived in Australia in 1850 with their parents and other siblings aboard Lloyd. But I think they both returned to Ireland. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

What state of Australia did the family come into?
Why do you think they returned?
When do you think they may have returned?

Sue

James and Mary Caher arrived in NSW with their children Patrick, Thomas, Bridget, Margaret, Mary and Honora in June 1850 aboard “Lloyd” . I have all details of James and Mary, and their daughters - all died in Victoria. I haven’t been able to confirm Patrick and Thomas. There are other trees on Ancestry but I am yet to confirm if they are correct. They have Patrick Cahir marrying Honora Kenny with their first child Mary Cahir born 1864 in Ennistimon, Clare, Ireland. And Thomas Caher marrying Bridget Crowe with possibly the first child John Caher being born in 1863 in Kilfenora. If hey are correct, then the boys would have returned to Ireland between 1850 - 1863.

prov.vic.gov.au/explore-collection/explore-topic/passenger-records-and-immigration/outwards-passenger-lists

Try this link  from the public record office of Victoria. Try name variations.
www.trove.nla.gov.au has a reference to Mr Patrick Caher and a horse in 1857 so if it is him that might narrow it down a bit.
There is a ref in the 1865 Vic Police Gazette for Thomas Cahir of LalLal missing a cow.
Found on Ancestry.com.au.. not sure if any use.

Well online parish Registers don't cover those years! https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0621

Commissioned research only.... so if they paid they should have a Source for Patrick!
