Who was Andrew Higgins?
« on: Friday 02 August 19 16:07 BST (UK) »
Hello,i asked about this man a few years ago,but still havent managed to solve the mystery.Jane Wright was my 2xgt/gm.Born Edinburgh. In 1825 she married an Andrew Higgens(different spelling)in Edinburgh. In 1841 she was a widow,re-married with a baby and living in Dorset. One of the entries was Andrew Higgins aged 70.1844,Andrew died aged 89!!!Present at the death David Godwin,Janes husband.I believe Andrew was 89,born 1755,all his military records are on Ancestry. But,i cant find a death for Janes 1st husband and cant decide who the other Andrew was.I thought he was Janes father -in-law,but dont know if he was married, the army seemed to have been his life.He was discharged aged 1813 aged 58.And why did old Andrew go from Edinburgh to Dorset, then died Bristol, they took him with them,so he must have been a relative,Any thoughts will help.Thank you Glenys

1841 - Holy Trinity, Weymouth, Dorset
I can see Andrew Higgins, born Scotland age 70 but if I read your post correctly the only Jane Godwin is 20 born in Ireland, together with Edward 25 and Mary 1?

HIGGINS, ANDREW       89
GRO Reference: 1844  D Quarter in BRISTOL  Volume 11  Page 110

The only record remotely like Higgins on Scotland’s People.

Glen11. If as you say your Jane Wight married an Andrew Higgins in 1825 then it is highly unlikely she is the Jane Goodwin in the1841 census as as Colc states the Jane in the 1841 census is shown as 20.

Colc looking at the 1841 census I thought Jane Goodwin is born Scotland but I may be wrong

I did find a possible death for Andrew

HIGGINS, ANDREW       40
GRO Reference: 1839  S Quarter in STEPNEY  Volume 02  Page 393

This might tie in to the following?

Jane Wright was. Born Edinburgh.

JANE WRIGHT   Married    ANDREW HIGGENS   25/07/1825   Edinburgh

ROBERT HIGGINS   Married    JEAN THOM   15/04/1794   Glasgow

Possible birth for Andrew?
Barony, Lanarkshire parents ROBERT HIGGENS/JEAN THOM
ANDREW (CHILD 1) 12/07/1795 – died Glasgow   26/07/1796, age 1
WALTER (CHILD 5) 28/10/1804

Glasgow = Andrew 11/07/1798, Robert 10/07/1801,
+ ANO (Maybe John died Glasgow 1/11/1799, age 3.

You have Jane Marrying Andrew Higgens in 1825.....

1841 census shows Jane Godwins birth around 1821
1851 census shows Janes  Godwins birth around 1814
1861 census shows Janes Godwins birth around 1815
1871 census shows Jane Godwins birth around 1815
1881 is the same

What makes you think Jane Wright and Jane Godwin are the same person?

When was Jane Wright born?

What info. is on the BC of 'Baby' who's on the 1841 census?

Were there children born to Andrew Higgins & Jane Wright, where/when?

Does the DC of Andrew Higgins in 1844 state David Godwin as 'Son-in-Law'?

The ages on the 1841 census are wrong, also David Godwin was not called Edward!I have tied Matilda Patch on the 1841 to John Patch who married an Eliza Higgins, they came from Crewkerne,Somerset,i had hoped to link the Higgins family, but no luck. Thanks for your suggestions,i will digest.Glen
