There are a lot of references to him in the newspapers of the time, indicating that he was working as a police superintendent in Monmouth by the mid 1850’s

The nearest I have found him is Oct 1859 when he was in Monmouth.
The Monmouthshire Merlin 2nd November 1861 has a report  about a robbery in Monmouth where the victim of the robbery informed Superintendent Wheeldon.
https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3399872/3399880/80/Edmund%20Wheeldon
He is also mentioned in the 15th   December   1860 issue.

I should, of course, have said Monmouthshire  ::)

He was appointed Superintending Constable of Abergavenny in October 1855

I'd found her via probate records ... but that doesn't help with 1861, does it? Some of my OH's lot "went missing" in 1861 Wales census, too. There in 1851, back in 1871, but...?

Not that it helps in the least to find him in 1861, but he took up his post in Monmouth in October 1857

Do we know when Emma Barnett died? (They married in 1842, didn't they?)
