If a minor traveled with parents on a boat to a new country, was the name included in the shipping records?

Minors would be included.
Not all records have been preserved, What era and countrie(s) are you considering?

Germany to South Africa and Namibia or South West Africa in the old days. I cant seem to find my great grandmother's name on the shipping lists.

When I used the Hamburg departure lists for the 1930's  (as an example) they were really fussy about umlauts and special characters in the names. Try to be more flexible, or if it still pans out, reveal the name(s) and known dates and let someone here take a look.

It might also be worth considering whether they travelled to South Africa through another European country.

Hi

In my experience    children were recorded only after 11yrs or 12 yrs of age  otherwise just as infants travelling with persons.  My ancestors came out from England  on the outward journey the 11 yr old wasrecorded, once in Australia on the coastal ships he was not. So from England 3infants with the mother and on the coast 4 infants.  I have identified only two of those four.

From Germany all the children were recorded so it seems that the countries /or shipping lines had different requirements.

Thanks, do you perhaps know which other countries Germans travelled from to Southern Africa?
