WFrancis Moynagh 1st & 2nd Bat 1st Foot 1823
« on: Monday 12 August 19 10:24 BST (UK) »
Francis enlisted into the 2nd Battalion in Dublin in June 1823 and was discharged in 1844 as unfit.  I am seeking any information regarding his service and marriage as I know he had two sons Francis 1939 (he also served with the 1st Foot) and William 1844.  I have tried other sources regarding his marriage unsucesfully and wondered wether this information may be in his military record should it exist.  Hoping someone may be able to help.

There's an army birth in Glasgow in 1832 - Francis Moynagh, 1st Royal Scots vol 1370 page 12. Have you looked into that?

You can apply to the GRO for a certificate in the normal way but I do not know how much information such an early certificate would contain.

I've looked at Francis senior's army file and there is no mention of his marriage. He attested for the 2nd Regiment of Foot (not 2nd battalion) in 1823 and transferred to the 1st Regiment in 1830.

There doesn't seem to be a birth record for son Francis (born Devonport) or for William (born Londonderry?).

I think son William also served in the army - 2nd battalion, 1st Regiment of Foot from 1859 to 1874 number 2949 but his papers have not survived.
