Who was Harry Southern ?
« on: Wednesday 14 August 19 10:14 BST (UK) »
A man named Harry Southern married Gwendoline A Maddock in the Northwich area in 1940, they had at least one children born in the Fylde area of Lancashire.
My question is all about Harry Southern who was he and what ever happened to him, I know nothing more about this mystery person.

Hi

Was Harry Southern a baker?  The name rings a bell with me from my childhood but the only Southern's I can remember had a bakery in Hale, Cheshire which is not far from Northwich.

I see in your list of names is Whittaker.  Is there any connection with Whittakers who were hatmakers in Romiley and Denton?  If so you have a connection with my husband's family.

I note on freebmd there were 3 Harry Southern's born Northwich between 1900 & 1920.

1902, 1905 & 1908. Maybe someone could find them on the 1911 census.

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Harry Southern 1903 parents Arthur H and Annie 30 Park Street Northwich

Harry Southern 1906 parents Joseph and Harriet 2 Lock Street Northwich

Harry Southern 1909 parents Thomas and Margaret 6 Avenue, Marston, Northwich

Unfortunately all three are on the 1939 Register and are all married.

Harry Southern/Gwendoline A Maddock Sep 1940 Northwich 8a 1289

The marriage certificate will name their father's, presuming there is one.

Did Gwendoline marry again in  1949, if so, did she claim to be widowed or divorced on that marriage certificate?

Deaths March quarter 1949 at Fylde Harry Southern age 72 - perhaps Harry's father??

Looks like she did remarry in 49 and go on to have at least one more child in the same area in 1953?
