Could anyone help to date photo, please?
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 20:28 BST (UK) »
I know where this beautiful photo is taken and I know that the people are my Shropshire ancestors... I just cannot put any names to the faces because I have no idea of the picture's date.

This picture looks almost like it is pasted onto a heavier backing.

Can anyone help me, please?

Thanks so much,
Donna

I agree with Onecoat - 1900 - 1910

What a beautifully posed picture!

Thank you so much, onecoat and Willow!

I understand that the picture's subjects were very poor, thus their Sunday clothes may not date the picture accurately?

Grateful,
Donna

Hi Donna,

Do you know who the little boy is?  If we can locate him in the 1901 census then we should be able to date the picture to within a couple of years since he looks to me to be about 6 to 8 years old in the picture.

Regards,

Allan

Oh! Thank you, Allan! Please pardon all of my flying research papers!

I do not know any names to go with the people in the picture. I was concentrating on the two women... one of which must be my great-grandmother (39 years in 1901). She DID have a son who was about 6 years old in 1901!

Yippee! Oops... am I jumping the gun?

After jumping the gun,  I've tripped and fallen. Splat!
... could someone help me up?

If this picture was taken near 1901... then my grandfather (17), great aunt (19), great uncles (15 & 11) should be in it...

Now, I'm confuddled,
Donna

Hi Donna, looking at the lady on the left (poss your Great great grandmother) she has mourning dress on I believe. (totally black) Could this help you date the pic?  ie, look ups on 1871 census.  Don't know.  New to this myself so a shot in the dark but want to help!
