Lazenby

Hi
Hope someone could help.  Trying to find maiden name of Jane Lazenby Married John Lazenby
On the 1911 Census states that she was born at Castle Howard Yorkshire in 1841, John was born 1837 Heslerton Yorkshire.  I am unable to find the Marriage or the maiden name.

Does the "years married" column on the 1911 census shed any light?  A quick look at FreeBMD for marriages of Jane to John LAZENBY shows nine results from 1861 up to 1895.

Also - do you happen to know if the couple had any children?

If this is the same couple, FamilySearch has:
1891 - RG12/3907/134 page 7 St Martin, Beverley, Yorkshire
John LAZENBY, head, 53, General Labourer, born Yorkshire
Jane, wife, 50, born Yorkshire
children: Emma 17, James 15, Thomas 11, Herbert 8, Jane 5

General Register Office index shows a mother's maiden name as SHEPHERDSON matching all the children.

Which in turn leads to a marriage indexed on FreeBMD:
Jun qtr 1861 Beverley vol 9d p156 - on same page John LAZENBY and Jane SHEPHERDSON.

If you have tracked him backwards and have the name of their children -- the you could look on the GRO Index for the mother's maiden name for those children.

A possibility is Jane Shepherdson in 1861. That was in York and is on Find My Past Yorkshire marriages. Also she is in Beverly in 1851 (from Philip's possible find below).

If it's the correct one then her father was Aaron - mother Ellen - but no children by those names so may not be.

Definitely check birth register on GRO for children's births.

I see Emelton beat me to it - but posting this anyway!

I modified my post a couple of times so I think our GRO advice must have crossed paths!

Baptism in Bulmer 9 September 1840 Jane daughter of Aaron and Ellen Shepherdson

Two possible birth registrations (on GRO Index):
SHEPHERDSON Jane, Sep qtr 1838 Malton Union vol 24 p352, mmn HOGGARD
SHEPHERDSON Jane, Sep qtr 1840 Malton Union vol 24 p386, mmn BOULTON

I think the 1840 birth is more likely, it and the baptism found by emeltom fit well with a marriage:
Mar qtr 1840 Malton vol 24 p353 - on same page Aaron SHEPHERDSON and Ellen BOLTON.

Philip

ADDED - Castle Howard (birthplace cited on 1911 census) was in the old parish of Henderskelf, which used to be in Malton registration district, as was Bulmer where Jane was baptised.

Oh sorry Philip -- twice I posted my message and got the notification that a reply had been received -- yours was one - which mentioned Beverley -- so I added that bit in --- posted again then told of Emelton's reply!

Hence added the bit about that - and posted for the THIRD time! Hence you must have edited yours in the meantime. Oh dear -- but we have 3 votes for Jane Sheperdson!!
