McGrail
« on: Monday 19 August 19 23:27 BST (UK) »
I have been tracing my family tree for a while, the variations in the spelling of the surname causing lots of hurdles!!! My great grandfather was Charles Megrail 1875 - 1901, his father was Michael Megrail born 1855 in Ireland, Mayo I think?

Welcome to rootschat. Franksdaughter,

Do you want help with more information on Michael?

Do you know who Charles' Mother was?

Is Charles alive for the 1901 census?

Thank-you.

Welcome from me also  :)

It is best to post what you already know - that helps us.

Is this Charles’ birth?

Charles McGreal 1875 Salford with mmn Talbot?

There is a Manchester marriage September 1871 but that is Thomas McGreal and Elizabeth Talbot.

Thomas is 30 yrs and a widower on marriage and his father is named as John.

Wow, Thank you. I believe my Charles Megrail is the one one the census with Harriet James but have never been able to find any other information. He was born in 1875 in Salford and up to now have never been able to find his mother. I don't know if he was alive for the 1901 census? The link for Charles Megrail and Eva Eaton is correct, baby Megrail is my grandfather Samuel Eaton Megrail. I believe Charles Megrails father Michael was born in Ireland, county Mayo??
