PEARCE- Kenora, Ontario
« on: Wednesday 21 August 19 08:24 BST (UK) »
My great uncle Christopher George PEARCE born Somerset 1891 emigrated to Canada and married Pearl Ivy Prout in Kenoria in 1912. Both were later buried there, in 1958 and 1995. The 1921 census for Kenoria shows two sons Albert b 1913 and George b 1920.

Does anyone have more information about this family?

Thanks Rosie. I wasn't sure if Albert had a middle name or had stayed in Canada.

Kenora Public Library has its old newspapers online, but the way it is set up is difficult to navigate, and one can't direct link to an image (and there is no search function).

http://www.kenorapubliclibrary.org/library-resources/newspaper-archives.aspx
If you can navigate your way to the edition 13 Aug 1958, several pages down (can't even read the page number!) you will find Christopher's obit, which indicates son George lived in Winnipeg.
As these papers are public domain, here is a transcript:

C George Pearce Died on Tuesday
C. George Pearce, beloved husband of Ivy Pearl Pearce, 910 First Street South, passed away at the Kenora General Hospital Tuesday, August 12, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Sommerset, England, he was 67 years old.  He came to Western Canada in 1910 and to Kenora in 1911.  He entered the services of the CPR as a wiper, was promoted to fireman in 1913 and to engineer in 1930, retiring June 1, 1956.  He was a member of the Anglican Church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Pequonga Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his widow, he srvivied by two sons, George of Winnipeg and Albert of California; three sisters and a brother in England and one brother of Lyleton, Manitoba.  Two grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Brown Funeral Home, Saturday August 10 at 2 pm.  Canon L. M. Watts will officiate and interment will be in the Lake of the Woods Cemetery.  There will be a Masonic graveside service.
