Help with poss NPE
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 08:26 BST (UK) »
I've been doing my friend's tree and she has had her DNA done on Ancestry and she doesn't match her aunt at all. I need help to help her interpret these results.

Is there anyone out there I can speak to please.  No other relatives alive to test.

Or is there a step by step guide somewhere I could refer to?

Many thanks

Is the aunt a sister of the man your friend believes was her father?

Is there any possibility that the aunt and/or father were adopted and therefore not genetically related to each other - have both births been traced? Similarly your friend’s own birth registration?

Is there anyone recognisable among the matches to whom your friend is genetically related, according to the test?

Hi

What is her closest match and does she match any other relative on that side of the family?

My niece and I share 1846 cM across 75 segments. The range for this type of relationship is 1349 – 2175 cM. - see:

Really sorry. I should be taken to task for drip feeding and complete loss of memory about previous post.

Just checked the relationship and it's not her aunt but her first cousin once removed who does not match at all - her father's first cousin on father's side via her grandfather's brother. DNA done as a result of my previous query.

I'l check the other questions you've asked and get back to you.

The FC1R does seem to match to paternal ancestors. Adoption not involved. All births verified.

Was your friend or her father born at a time of disruption (e.g. wartime)?

Are there any matches between your friend and people in her father’s maternal line?  The answer to this might help identify in which generation any NPE happened.

The tables on this link suggest that there is 0% chance of not having a match with a 1C1R:

https://isogg.org/wiki/Cousin_statistics

If you could get access to her results, you could check who she does match and if there is any overlap at all via shared matches.

She can give you rights to view her results.
