St Albans Pontypool 1862 - HAMILTON
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 08:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for the birth record for Edward Hamilton Born in Pontypool in 1862 his religion is recorded as "Church" and I believe St Albans was the only one in the area at that time?
I have completed subscription searches of Ancestry, My Heritage and contacted Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Newport County Councils all before asking for help as I really appreciate your time is precious.
Thanks very much for any information or suggestions on where else to look it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Angela :-)

Have you found the marriage for him?

That should name his father and witnesses to trace him back as elusive at this point.

Hi,

Yes that is him in the 1901 census and it may be him as Edwin in 1891 but there is some possibilities of cross over as I have found other Edward Hamiltons marrying Margaret and almost all of the childrens birth certificates are also being elusive but I found him in a record in Gaol in December 1887 for 3 days in Swansea as well, I was unable to find his marriage but I think his family came from Ireland, so I am hoping the birth will give me some strong leads.   I know they were poor and there was talk that they used other names to avoid debts so that may be an explanation for Edwin.
Thanks for the reply, sorry I didnt give all the details in the first message, I am a bit wordy so I tried to focus on just the information I was looking for LOL.
Thanks
Angela :-)

Yes the children's births are elusive too aren't they  :-\

Maybe Edward and Margaret didn't marry and the births are under her maiden name?

ancestry links to a Margaret Burke but  ???

Which of the children's births did you find?

Hi,
A few other pieces of information I have for 'full picture' he also had another two daughters after the 1901 census Elsie 1901) and Annie (1905) and Margaret (Burke) died in 1908 before the next census and all the girls were put in Nazareth House.
I found an Edward Hammer born in Pontypool Apr/May/Jun 1862 mothers maiden name George and I wonder if its possibly a transcription error.  I looked up every Edward born in Pontypool 1862 and that seemed like a possibility, I have sent an email back to the Monmouthshire Council in case they have visibility of the original record as I am happy to pay for the certificate if it is the right one.
Thanks again for the response.

Thanks
Angela :-)

Hi,

I found Mary Ann in Cardiff 1889 and Edward 21 December 1891 Swansea and I have my grandmothers from 1901 Elsie.  I am hoping the birth and mothers maiden name might give me other possibilities.

I am guessing you can see one of my broken trees on Ancestry.  I am building a new tree as the previous one was corrupted by bad information from another ancestry member but I have learnt from that mistake and building very slowly and will delete other trees when all hints and possibilities from them are exhausted.

Thanks
Angela :-)
