Hmmm.  There is a possible death for Jessie Hardy aged 0, Dec qtr 1862 Manchester.

This Hardy family may be a complete red herring.

JOHN TAYLOR BORN 03.02.1884 AT HEPTONSTALL TO DAVID AND SALLY TAYLOR.
HE IS MENTIONED IN THE 1841/51 CENSUS BUT MISSING ON THE 1861/71 CENSUS
He appears again ON THE 1881 CENSUS AGED 40, OCCUPATION STONEMASON  living with his mother SALLY TAYLOR AGED 66 and JOHN MARSHALL AGED 6 AT 22 CASTLE STREET, TODMORDEN.

I believe this is John Taylor who married Janet ? surname, who is my paternal great grandmother between 1818 to 1901 based on the census information found.

The John Taylor found with Sally Taylor in Castle St in 1881 has been with his family in Stansfield all along:

1841: John Taylor, 2mo, son of James & Salley. HO107/1305 book 3 folio 19 page 11.
1851: John Taylor, 9 b Stansfield, son of James & Sally. HO107/2288/394/10.
1861: John Taylor, 20 b Halifax, son of James & Sally. RG9/3233/60/28. Cotton carder.
1871: John Taylor, 31 b Todmorden, son of (widowed) Sarah. RG10/4330/54/3. Mason’s labourer.
1881: John Taylor, 40 b Heptonstall, son of (widowed) Sally. RG11/4357/52/3. Stone mason.

Address 1861 onwards is Lower Castle St or Castle St, Stansfield.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)

Possible 1851 census for James Hardy? ??(could the Jannet Brymner aged 3 born Manchester be recorded with wrong age)

Interestingly Robert Brymner is recorded as a Stonemason

Thanks for all your interest hard work.
Re John Taylor just to confirm his year of birth was 1834 as I stated originally and not 1884, sorry.

I think the Manchester connection could possibly be a Red Herring but who knows !
I hope the following may help in the search JANET ? marriage to JOHN TAYLOR.

Some more information regarding Jessie Cockcroft nee HARDY

1891 Census states born in Scotland

1901 Census states born in Lancashire Manchester

1911 Census states born in Salford Manchester

Her marrige certificate states her age as 25 in 1890 which would make her 23 if born in 1867
Jessie died in March 1922 aged 55 years according to her headstone which is a little difficult to read because of age although the dates would tally.

GRO records show her as JESSIE HARVEY COCKCROFT she had eight children with Arthur.
It records her maiden name as HARVEY NOT HARDY for 5 children, IVY for 1 child and HIGHLEY for another child my father WILLIAM, and this is recorded as this on his birth certificate.

Many thanks.

It seems to me you have made a mistaken connection between the John Taylor born in 1834 (parents David and Sally) and the younger one appearing with Sally in 1881, aged 40 (whose parents, as you can see from the earlier censuses set out at reply #20, were James and Sarah/Sally).

The latter was registered as John Taylor, mother’s maiden name Roberts, Jun qtr 1841 Todmorden.

His parents James Taylor and Sally Roberts married Dec qtr 1839 Todmorden.

I have looked at your findings and agree that the John Taylor born 1841 in Heptonstall and living in Castle Street with his mother Sally on the 1881 census is the correct John Taylor.

I now need to find his marriage to Janet ? in the Heptonstall area some where between 1881 and 1901.

On the 1901 census Janet Taylor born 1837 in Berwick upon Tweed was shaown as a widow.

Yes.  It would help if we could find John and/or Janet (together or separately) in 1891 - I must say I have not had any luck with that.
