John McRobbie
« on: Monday 09 September 19 04:15 BST (UK) »
I am going through some family tree research...trying to see if this is part of our tree.

John McRobbie, married to Helen  McRobbie (MS Forbes)  no dates of birth/death

Son is William McRobbie (b. 1849) married Mary Topp   (b. 1847 d. 1918) in 1868 at Ythanwells, Scotland.

They had 11 children.

Would anyone know John McRobbie birthdate....death....and who his parents were?

Assuming you have the marriage certificate for William does it say if his parents are deceased ?
Have you found William in any Census records before his marriage to see where they were living ?

I was going off a family tree mailed to us some years ago......after your post I did find the 1868 marriage and it does show William's parents both deceased. I'm still trying the census side.....thanks for the help.

William's age throughout the Census 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 - and his death age in 1913 in Durris Kincardineshire, are all consistently reporting he was born around 1846 in Culsamond, Aberdeenshire. He was a Slater by trade.

This could be him :
1851: Address: Jimpac, Culsamond
John McROBIE 64, Inspector Of Poor & Ag Lab, b Culsamond, Aberdeenshire
Wife: Jannet 66, b Culsamond, Aberdeenshire
Dau: Isabella 25, Dressmaker, b Culsamond, Aberdeenshire
Grandson: William 5,  Inspector's Grandson , b Culsamond, Aberdeenshire

This is the same 1851 family, in 1841:
1841: Jimpie, Culsamond, Aberdeenshire
John McROBIE 50, Auctioneer
Jean 50
Alexander 25, Farmer
Isabella 15
John BEATTIE, Lodger,  5
Jean MIDDLETON 10

The wife/mother of the 1841/51 household is Jean/Jane  WILSON. Son Alexander's baptism is on SP for 1814 Culsamond. The daughter Isabella married Alexander ADAM in 1859 in Culsamond.

In 1861, Jimpack Culsamond.
Head: John McROBIE 74, widower, Retired Farmer, b Rayne Aberdeenshire
Son-In-Law: Alexander ADAMS  48, Slater,
Daughter: Isabella ADAMS 36, Slaters Wife & Dressmaker.

Haven't found William in 1861 though  ???

When he married Mary in 1868, who were the witness and what was his address?

Cheers

Thanks for all the census and the grave marker.

The children on the family tree we have match up to those buried with William.

The part that conflicts are on both William And Mary's marriage record, and on William's death record Helen McRobbie (MS Forbes) is shown as his mother.  The Jean/Jannet would have been 55 years old when William was born.  One witness to the wedding is signed George Topp, which I guess may be the brides brother as George Topp, the brides father is listed as deceased??

No conflict ;D because the 1851 Census for the family of John McROBBIE and wife Jean/Jane/Janet WILSON - lists William as a Grandson. If this is your William, then we're looking for a son of John & Jean, named John - with a wife named Helen/Ellen Forbes.

Who was the second witness to the 1868 marriage, and George's address (if there was anything specific, that is).

Wish we could find him in 1861!

Cheers,

Did it give his father's occupation on the marriage record which might help in finding them on the 1851 census
