« on: Friday 13 September 19 00:28 BST (UK) »
Elizabeth was born abt1792 and married St Giles on the Heath Devon to Richard Rowe 9th july 1812.  Witnesses Thomas Sleeman & Thomas Parsons. There was also a Martha Hocking married to James Honey 20 july 1812. witness William Hocking and Thomas Parsons. Were they sisters and was this William Hocking their father or brother? Elizabeth states in the 1851 census st tudy cornwall she was born st giles on the heath. she was then 59 and a widow.I cannot find any baptisms for St Giles around the time when these two maybe sisters were baptised. Does anyone know where these records went or are Thanks lnr

Hi

You could consider baptisms in Virginstow (Cornwall) which is under three miles from St Giles on the Heath.

A William Hockin and his wife Ann had four children there

Martha bp 8 Nov 1789
Elizabeth bp. 30 Oct 1791
Mary bp. 26 Oct 1794
John bp 16 April 1797

Marriage. Richard Rowe to Honor Giddey 21 May 1792 St. Tudy, Cornwall

Richard otp, Honor   Sojourner. Both single. Both signed X
Witnesses Christopher Parsons (he signed others)  & Josias Phillipps.

Children baptised there 1792- 1797. Thomas, Honor, Richard, William.

There are others elsewhere but only father noted?

A William Hocken was Church Warden at the church certainly when he signs off the baptisms around 1793/4, It may be worth finding out more about him?

What is it you want to know about this family?

The only William & Ann marriage I can find in Cornwall on family search. Some similar names on Freereg but down towards Lands End.

William Hocken, Husbandman otp, to Ann Cornish otp, both single 16 Apr 1782 Northill, Cornwall. William signed HOCKEN, Ann signed X. Witnesses John Cornish, he signed & Thomas Kenner signed X.

Northhill is some 20 miles from Virginstow. No trace of the records that Claire posted.

Hi

The Virginstow parish register transcripts are available on Findmypast.

The Northill marriage is about the only marriage I could see too but the couple baptise a child the same year as the Virginstow couple.

I have found these baptisms to in St Giles on the Heath

Abraham bp 27 Oct 1805 son of William and Ann

Ann CROCKER** Hockin bp 6 Feb 1803 dau of William and Ann

Richard bp 10 July 1808 son of William and Ann

Wonder if the middle name of daughter Ann could be Williams wife’s surname?
