Escaping Nazi persecution risking intermment
« on: Sunday 22 September 19 15:01 BST (UK) »

Can anyone help find who this lady.s brothers were please .
Chaene Emma Bloch
was detained in 1939 because her deceased Polish Russian father Jacob Bloch had naturalized to German citizenship

Chaene Emma Bloch aged 66 had been working for many years as a secretary for a Jewish Society
And had a brother aged 77 in Germany who she was worried about endangering and another brother In Australia who sometimes sent her money.

She went to Scotland to stay with distant relatives of my relatives

I think I've found death of her mother Ita Schwidgowski
deceased 1913 and one brother who died young

But would love to know who her brothers were+ if they survived the war ..
Chaene married a widowed Tailor called Harris SUNSHINE and died in Scotland 1953

Her death cert was signedby  stepson in law  .name illegible could've Abraham's

I was only researching my great aunts children but her husband's family is very interesting and we seem to have DNA links with "Sunshine 'descendants too ..any ideas what their original name could be ?

HI

first things first.
The place you mention on your family tree is Neustadt and not Heustadt

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutuzovo,_Krasnoznamensky_District,_Kaliningrad_Oblast
in the history section you will find
(German: Neustadt Schirwindt, lit. "Schirwindt New Town"

Now to the 2 brothers.

What makes you think Iti's death cert was signed by  „stepson in law name illegible“??

The person who reported her death was Hugo Bloch, who could have been her son
The cert, was signed by Hugo Bloch and the registrar Kammer

On Martchel Bloch's death cert. we read:

before the undersigned registrar appeared today the office worker (kommis) Chonel Bloch
resident in Tilsit, Parkhofstrasse 11
and reported that his brother, the day worker (Häusler) Martchel Bloch
etc etc

So Hugo and Chonel could be Chaene‘s brothers

Regards
Dave

Thank you for your quick reply

I don't read Polish and the  town was filled out by auto function of ancestry

I posted all the documents I found without knowing what they meant

I will correct the town now

Thanks for the explanation
And for the name of potential brothers
I didn't know it showed onmy tree as I haven't linked to the Blochs we know but I do want to share Cheana Emma Blochs story

It is Cheana Emma's death  on scottishpeople certificate
The signature was all crossed out .but it clearly says stepson in law

Where did you see this record please

Death cert from Ita and from Martchel

Sorry Dave  the wording on my post wasn't clear .have modfied *

It's good to know that the writing is old German  I found it hard to decipher especially as I'm using my mobile phone not a computer .

searches on ancestry keep throwing up USA potentials even tho I want to look in Germany and Austalia

I think Cheana.s step daughter was Gertrude Sunshine who married Solomon ABRAHAMS in 1941 in Scotland .

Can you tell from marriage certs
If parents are still living
In 1905 Ella Berta BLOCH b 30/9/1882 married Meir WATELSKY
Her parents are listed as Michla+ Martchel Bloch
But I thought I'd found his death cert 19th sept 1887

Very tragic as baby Max was born 18 sept 1887 and died 31st march 1888

I received a reply from USA DNA match whose tree goes back to Sarah Sunshine1849 Austria
M Benjamin Harris WODENSKY 1850-1917

Their son Hyman Harris WODENSKY 1888- m1914 another Sarah Sunshine b1896 Austria d 1989 Pittsburgh
Daughters were Ruth Harris 1915-2007 m Irving Klein +
Estelle SALZMAM  married name. ?
If tree is correct Hyman and Sarah m in Ohio in 1914 but Ruth was born in Minsk 1915

No connections to Scotland !

Another tree has a Harry Zunchin Sunshine b 1867  Bialyslok
This seems a likely origin name
Wife Nettie Goodman
Children all born Russia
Rose b1889 and Diane both married Kantrowitz men

Sophie sunshine b1887

victor b1900

Third tree  with DNA + sunshine links has Abraham sunshine b 1907 Austria m Bessie SIGLER
Parents Pikas Sunshine m Rachel  Oxter no dates or places

Again no  obvious connections to Scotland or a specific town in Austria/ Russia that I can see
or to each others trees

I would like  Chane Blochs relatives. To see the document with Winston Churchill s signature and thought the Sunshine name would be best .
I wonder if this topic would be better on scotland forum as the Blochs were well established there
