Hello all,
I’m looking for some help in tracking down my 2x great grandparents, Henry Mackle and Sarah Mackle (née Tomlinson) in the 1901 census. I know they were still alive at the time, but aren’t where I’d expect them to be (Ballymilligan in the Loop, near Moneymore). I think they may have been staying somewhere else on the night of the census, and I’m hoping more eyes might help find them!
For some context of places they had previously been linked to; Henry and Sarah had married in the Roman Catholic chapel at Balinderry in 1871. Henry was living in Bellagherty at the time, Sarah in Ballymultrea, both were weavers by trade. Judging by the births of their children, they then lived in the townlands of Bellagherty, Ballymulderg and Ballyrogully (in that order) before moving to Ballymilligan, sometime in or just prior to 1901 as listed in the Griffiths Valuation books.
Their three daughters Sarah Ann, Mary and [Andrew] Thomas are listed in the 1901 census for Ballymilligan, with Sarah Ann as head of household despite only being 17. Their sister Bridget is also in the area, working as a servant to a Scullion family.
Sarah Mackle (the mother) died in 1909 in Ballymilligan, with the Widower Henry Mackle as the informant. He is present in the 1911 census with Mary and Andrew Thomas (surnames listed as ‘Michael’), so I know that the parents were still living there, but obviously not on the night of the 1901 census.
So that’s what I have so far. Given that ‘Mackle’ is a particularly difficult surname to search for due to spelling variations, it’s entirely possible I’ve missed something horribly obvious.
Any and all help gratefully appreciated!
