Hi Rosie99,

The only Frederick HURLEY I could find that fits the criteria is this fellow
Frederick Marcus HURLEY bap 9th August 1835 at St Nicholas of Myra, Strood, Kent, to William Pearce HURLEY and his wife Ann. His father is a Sawyer and they reside in Strood, Kent.

This same fellow was buried a the same place on the 30th July 1852.

Cheers
Geoff

Hello philrmoon,

First to advise you not to accept the family trees online as being accurate. Up to now, I have found most of these to be incorrect and the problem is that other people copy them and continue the errors. You need to check everything for yourself and be satisfied the entries are right.

You say that Frederick Hurley married and moved to Gloucestershire. I presume he is the one in the 1871 census living in 9 Narrow Plain, Bristol, and married to Elizabeth. His age is given as 35, so year of birth would have been 1836. He was born Somerset. They have 5 children, including a daughter named Frances. Frederick's occupation is a Baker.

Their marriage appears to be in Clifton Registration District in the March quarter of 1864, Frederick Hurley married Elizabeth Harriett Rice. Find my Past has the marriage on 13 March 1864 at St Peter, Clifton Wood. Frederick's father was John Hurley, occupation: Baker. Elizabeth's father was John Hyatt Rice, occupation: Tin Plate worker. Elizabeth was a minor.

In 1881, Frederick is living at 9 Narrow Plain, Bristol with Elizabeth and 8 children. He is shown as born Somerset, a Baker by occupation.

In the 1891 census, Frederick Hurley is still living at 9 Narrow Plain, Bristol. He is a widower, age 55 and a Baker, born Woolavington, Somerset. He has 5 children living with him.

Frederick's baptism appears to be the one on 19 February 1836 at Woolavington, son of John and Frances Hurleigh. John is an Innkeeper. He was baptised as Frederic Hurleigh.

In the 1901 census Frederick Hurley is living with his son, Arthur Ernest Hurley, in 7 South Place, Bristol. Frederick is shown as a widower, age 67, a Baker/breadmaker, born Bridgewater, Somerset.

There is a Frederick Hurley in the 1911 census, he is aged 75, a widower, living with his son, Walter Benjamin Hurley and his family. They are in Under Arches, Water Court, Whitehouse, Bristol. There is a query with this in that he shows his occupation as Stone Mason.

Frederick's death looks to be in Bristol in the March quarter of 1915, aged 79. That puts his year of birth as 1836.

I would recommend researching this line as it seems to be the most likely for the Frederick Hurley you are seeking.

Jo.

Check a marriage for John Hurley to Frances Cribb on 31 March 1834. I cannot find where it took place. John Hurley may have died in 1841 in Bridgewater. He is in the 1841 census in Bawdrip, age 45 a Publican. Frances, age 35, is in the household as is James, age 16.

Registration District: Bridgewater, piece 953, Book 1, Folio 7, Page 8.
