Thomas Howard
« on: Monday 07 October 19 02:52 BST (UK) »
My 3 x great grandfather Thomas Howard b.1808 my information tells me that he was married to Sarah b.1800 d.1855 (born  Dennis). He was a wheelwright and postmaster and lived in Insworth Essex. He died in 1886.
My query is that I am trying to find information on his father and mother, all I know is that his father was also Thomas b.1788 and his mother was Elizabeth b.1790. I keep hitting a brick wall so I am hoping that someone on here might be able throw some light on this couple for me. Thanking you in advance.

I note that there are various online trees stating his parents were a Thomas and Elizabeth - however, when he married his second wife Ann Hull in 1856 his father was not a Thomas!

Thomas Gooding Howard, widower, Wheelwright, son of John Howard, Wheelwright
Ann Hull, spinster, dau. of James Hull, Labourer
married 28/9/1856 St. George Hanover Square, Middlesex (London).

In 1851 at Minster in Sheppey, Kent

John Howard   70   Wheelwright            born Marks Tey, Essex
Mary Howard wife  53                           born Sheerness, Kent
George Howard  24                                   ditto
William Howard  17                                   ditto
John Howard  14                                       ditto

Looks like Mary must have been a second wife as only born ca.1798.

Unfortunately, I cannot find online baptisms for Minster, Isle of Sheppey/Sheerness for the relevant time frame so don't know who John Howard's first wife was.

Annette

Don't believe all you see on online trees and always checkout the facts.  Since I saw that Thomas remarried in 1856 I checked the marriage certificate (found on FindMyPast) which clearly shows his father as John, also a Wheelwright who was living in Minster in Sheppey in 1841 and 1851 (died 1853).
