world war 2
« on: Thursday 18 August 05 23:57 BST (UK) »
Although I am researching my own family tree my daughter has decided to research her fathers family [and I thought my side of the family was difficult}

on her behalf can anyone give any advise on tracking down the records of
PTE William F Roxby  Worc R
We have a photograph of my father-in -law [whom I never met] kneeling beside a cross that has the inscription above and 14438183 and KA 9.8.44 I presume this is the date he was killed this is his son by his 1st marriage.
I also have a photograph of my ex mother -in-law in a RAF uniform dated 1944 apparently she was a nurse
any help would be appreciated

William F Roxby age 1 month was living with his mother Emily age 28, Married, Head of Family b. Hinton Waldrot Berks. Also Lodger Arthur C. Wolff Gen. Lab. born do.
Young William is born in Willesden.
Address was 58 Burrows Road, Willesden RG13/1218 p.22 of the census.
This gives a very strong possibility  that her husband was in South Africa fighting in the Boer War also that her maiden name was Woolff.
The other bits about Joan Prior etc are not easy to find - in fact very difficult. Start at our Beginners Board and read the stuff about War Records - better you find people that are living and can tell you something about her. 8)
