I’m searching for the birth certificate of my great great grandfather Patrick Conroy.
His marriage certificate shows that when he married in 1867 he was 23 y o. He married Anner (Hannah) Naylor and his father’s name was Murt. I assume that is short for Murtagh. I have also seen it recorded as Mart.
Although married in Newcastle upon Tyne he previously lived in Bradford.
1881 Census shows he was living in Newcastle and was born in Bradford. Year of birth 1844.
1891 Census shows him as Peter Conroy same wife and children living in Newcastle and born Ireland. Year of birth 1840.
1901 Census shows him as Peter Conray, same wife and children although year of birth is 1839
His army service record shows him as Patrick Conroy born in the Parish of Mountmellick, near the town of Bradford in the County of Queens (Laois). Year of birth 1840.
A bit confusing but I think maybe he was born in Mountmellick before moving to Bradford. If he was born in Bradford why would he even mention Mountmellick?  I’m not sure why they’d mix them together like this.

birth registration only commenced in 1864 in Ireland.

You may be able to find a baptism though.

If he was Roman Catholic, the registers are free on-line. Starting dates vary and some are more legible than others.

This is the link for Mountmellick   RC registers

Other parishes available on following link.

You could try searching for siblings marrying 1864+ and see what details are on their Civil Reg, especially sisters as they usually marry at their church.

The Irish Govt website gets one Free BDM Certs.

There is a security Captcha to solve and one can just use Initials to sign in.   Perfectly safe website.

Link to Marriages up to 1870  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ohv/  move up years if you want.

Home page  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp  where one can find explanation to yrs covered etc.....

You will get list of Marriages, right click on 4 or 5 and Open in New Tab to check them, then next few etc....  see if any have Murt as father.

You could, of course, just follow up on all the information given to you on your other thread....which you haven't even mentioned.

It would save people wasting their time looking for and finding information already found.
