ORD, HILL, SWAIN & JOHANSEN - Hartlepool families & graves
« on: Friday 11 October 19 22:35 BST (UK) »
Please could someone tell me if there are any gravestones still at Hartlepool Stranton, or any MIs?
Ive been doing research for my son-in-law and was sent details of his grt grandfather William ORD buried 28/11/1917 & mother in law Ellen/Helena JOHANSEN buried 30/10/1917 in same grave.
grt grt grandfather Richard HILL buried 16/01/1892,   also Ellis JOHANSEN buried 17/09/1941.  Ellen's  2nd husband.
and Annie SWAIN buried 1936. age about 36.

Annie & Jabez SWAIN had 3 children, Annie, Olga and Sidney (he born 1930) so dont know if there are any descendants or if any still alive. Sidney was with my son-in-laws grandfather Richard ORD in 1939 register.

If anyone knows anything about William ORD's birth about 1880 - supposedly in Stockton according to census but not been able to prove parents as possibly George & Martha.

I dont really expect there are gravestones but interested to hear about state of cemetery and any connections to descendants!
Thanks.

What year was Richard Ord born - there are several of that name on the 1939 register

Presumably William Ord was the father of Richard??

Have you tried Durham Records Online

The index is free. If you think you have the right person then the cost of seeing the actual transcript is reasonable.

Do you know who William Ord bc 1880 married? His marriage certificate should include his father’s name. You can then look for the family back through the censuses.

The 1911 census will give you information about the marriage and a time frame to look for a marriage.

I think it was Stranton Grange Cemetery as opposed to Stranton All Saints.

Hi cavair001,

I was in Hartlepool this week and went along to Stranton Cemetery.

You asked about the Cemetery and what state was it in. Well, firstly it is a very large and extensive Cemetery and very well kept by the Council. It is so big it would be impossible to locate a grave without the Section and plot number, which I would presume could be obtained from the Office there, which wasn't open when I was there.

Having said that I did find some graves near the Chapel which were dated 1915/16/17/18. I took some photo's of the Cemetery and that area near the chapel.

Also in Hartlepool near the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre is an impressive War Memorial. On plaques around the Memorial I found the names of Henry Ord and Alan Ord.

If you would like photo's of the Cemetery and the names on the War Memorial send me your email address by PM and I'll forward them to you.

Regards,
Ian

Seems strange to me that someone would post asking for help and then not acknowledge replies, be them helpful or not.

Other RC members have spent time trying to assist and I noticed that cavair has been on RC twice since replies were posted, even after grendav's post on Saturday.

Having said this I will still try to assist others if I can.
