How can I search 5 year period for marriage after 1958?
« on: Tuesday 15 October 19 11:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Please can someone tell me how to go about searching for a potential marriage in Ireland after 1958 from here in Sussex, England?

Basically, using the 1964/65 electoral registers for London, I located a relative who I believe originated from Ireland. I believe he was married, and appears to be living with a female with the same surname, but I cannot find any entry in the Irish records which only go up to 1958, or any entry in the England/Wales index.

I have their first names, middle initials, and surname, but prefer not to post publicly just encase they are still alive, & so on, and wondered if anyone can advise how to go about this.

Thanks in advance.

Ian.

Essentially - you can't ;D

Irish Law only allows information to be placed online if the marriage is more than 75 years ago (so, 1944?)

The first part is correct but the second is not. Family Search have indexed Irish records up to 1958.

Phisherman- I think you can still apply for a search of marriage indexes from GRO, Roscommon. It used to be each search only covered a 5 year period so if you aren't at all certain of the date it may be more difficult (and expensive).

Have you checked using father's surname and mother's surname to see if any possible children born in Ireland?

Also, might be worth checking another free resource to see if either is listed in probate index (you will need search year by year)-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey, & to a lesser extent, Kgarrad,  ;D

Sadly, I have no maiden name for the female living with this relative, so can't make a search for children as yet.

What I will do is contact the GRO and see if they can do a search, like you suggested.

Thanks also for the 2 links and other suggestions too.
