WW2 Royal Artillary - Records Search, Advice please
« on: Sunday 20 October 19 14:54 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am trying to find information about my G/Father, Arthur COCKLIN born 08081910 in Wandsworth who was a Sgt with the Royal Arttillary in 1944 Service Number 791510 who was mentioned in dispatches in 1944 whilst serving in the Middle East.

I have found a reference number which I think is 68/Gen/7715 but I would like to be able to tell my dad, why his father was mentioned. Can anyone help me with how I can find this information please?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Ancestry have just released a new collection - UK, WW2 Royal Artilllery Tracer Cards 1939-1948.  However I cannot see Arthur's name.  :'(
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks BumbleB ,, I think I have hit a brick wall as to request military records, I would need a copy of his death certificate and I cant get that. Such a shame, My father is in his late 80s now and we would love to have been able to give him this info. Unless you have any suggestions, I think I will have to close this enquiry now.

Thank you all for your help, it really is appreciated.

Regards

Ian

You can purchase a copy of his death certificate from this site:

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

You will have to register with your e-mail address and create a password.  No charge for this bit, and just order the certificate, using the information supplied by Rosie.
